Anglade announces $803,000 to boost Quebec’s exports

(TLN) Quebec Minister for the Economy, Science and Innovation Dominique Anglade announced on April 13 financial assistance for local businesses to improve their chances of breaking into international markets. She made the announcement at a Laval export business.

Non-reimbursable subsidies amounting to $803,000, and broken down into sums ranging from $3,368 to $73,305, are being allotted by the provincial government to 30 export projects.

Quebec goes global

The money will be used to pay for the participation of the businesses in trade fairs and economic promotion missions around the globe. As well, the subsidies will help pay the costs of welcoming buyers from foreign countries, market research studies and the creation of promotional tools.

Anglade made the announcement at a production facility at an industrial park in Chomedey where the company in question is involved in the import of organic ingredients. The owner, Martin Bilodeau, is seen as an example of a Quebec businessman which has succeeded internationally by doing up to 60 per cent of its business with global clients.

Worthwhile investment

Anglade acknowledged to journalists that the Liberal government allots a significant amount of financial support towards developing foreign markets for Quebec products, but that the investment has proven to be worth it.

The government has set aside up to $500 million over a four-year period for that purpose. The government considers it worthwhile to support businesses going to trade fairs in foreign countries and taking part in economic missions overseas, she added.
