ARTISTS EXPRESS THEIR CREATIVITY: ART CONCENTRATION AT LAVAL JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

As student council members, we thought we would let you know how wonderful the “Art Concentration” program at Laval Junior High School is for the students and teachers involved. We interviewed some “Art Concentration” students and our art teacher, Ms. Catherine Aznar. The students we interviewed all felt that this program gave them the opportunity to explore their love for the visual arts. Students in the “art concentration” program have art six out of nine days. This allows them to improve the skills and learn new techniques. The students interviewed have loved art from a young age and were happy to find a school program where they can learn alongside other students who share their interest and passion for art. The students work on classroom assignments at a comfortable and yet enriching pace. Part of the program does involve homework but the kids don’t mind it all! One of their favorite homework assignments is called “visual pushups”. These pushups allow the students to choose from a list of things to draw or sketch.
The students enjoy having the freedom to choose. These students, “love art because there is no wrong or right, just the freedom to be you.”
Ms. Aznar shared with us her reason for being an art teacher. She has loved art, drawing and sketching, since she was young and the decision to become an art teacher was an easy one for her. She enjoys teaching the “Art Concentration” students because she embraces their love for art and brings them to a higher level. She said that “art is a form of expression that brings out the creativity in everyone.”

LJHS STUDENT COUNCIL LOOKS FORWARD TO 2012

The Laval Junior High School Student Council met as soon as we got back to school following the Holiday break. Filled with a renewed enthusiasm and new ideas, we met to discuss what we wanted to accomplish in the New Year. The first order of business was to plan Valentine’s Day activities and fundraisers. Money raised from this fundraiser will go towards our school wide “End of Year BBQ”. This event, a long standing LJHS tradition, marks the end of yet another school year. As well, we decided that we wanted to share the wonderful programs and classes that make our school so special with the LJHS community. Consequently, Student Council members will plan and write a few of the upcoming articles for the Laval News with LJHS programs as the main topic.
