 Mayor Marc Demers, whose municipal party once rejected a plan to build a sports and entertainment complex in central Laval, announced last week that construction is starting on the $200 million project and the city has chosen the contractor that will handle the work.

 For most children, one thing that is usually more exciting than almost anything else is a trip to the local firehall.

 Quebec Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil joined Laval-des-Rapides Liberal MNA Saul Polo and Alfred-Pellan NDP MP Rosane Doré Lefebvre for a rousing sendoff at the Entraide community centre in Pont-Viau on Oct. 4 for a week-long celebration of intercultural understanding to underscore the multicultural changes that are transforming Quebec society.

In anticipation of National Caregivers Week, which is taking place in Quebec from Nov. 2 – 8, L’Appui Laval, which provides services for elderly persons’ caregivers, made several announcements earlier this week about caregiver projects that will be receiving financial assistance, and a new e-mail service that will provide additional support to caregivers.

 CSSS de Laval, which coordinates health and social services in the region, is launching a new program in conjunction with the Centre jeunesse de Laval children’s aid agency. The program is to be known by the acronym PILE.

 A motion to change Laval city council’s question period regulations which was presented by the Action Laval opposition during the Oct. 6 city council meeting was rejected by Mayor Marc Demers and the Mouvement lavallois council majority.
