Volunteers Training Day

In order to support Laval’s volunteers whose immense efforts have allowed the city to offer many diverse social, recreational and sport services to the general population the administration has once organizing a Volunteer Training Day. This year’s event is held on November 19th 2011 at the campus of the University of Montreal at Laval. This training activity has become an annual event and is intended for Laval volunteers. Workshops will focus on subjects that affect the successful operation of a non profit corporation and will include topics like; finances and budgets, office technology and event management. The workshops are organized and made possible with the aid of city employees and several collaborators. The subjects addressed in the workshops include; communication, leadership, recruiting, volunteers supervision, fund-raising, financial management and many other topics. At the end of the day the participants will be invited to an inspirational talk given by guest speaker Dan Bigras. Registration is required for anyone who wishes to participate. The admission fee is $10 per person for the day and they include snacks, a lunch, the conference and the afternoon cocktail.
This event premiered in 1977 but since its inception its format has evolved and the material presented has adapted to reflect the new challenges facing volunteers and their organizations. The early editions of these workshops focused on training board members of non profit corporations for their roles as members of a board of directors. Since 2005 the training activity has expanded to include all levels of volunteers and became known Volunteer training day. While the primary function of this day is to better equip volunteers as they serve the general public it also serves as a forum and occasion for the volunteers of different organizations to meet and create social and community network links.
