Compost Sale

In 1997 the city of Laval launched a very innovative waste collection project a first in Québec. Garbage collection was divided into three separate collections; recyclable materials like glass, plastics and cans, compost able materials like clean food scraps, organic waste and leaves and regular garbage. Since the beginning of this program the compost created is sold to citizens at a very low cost. Twice a year during spring and fall Laval residents are invited to come to Laval’s composting site located in the Fabreville district on 4026, boulevard Dagenais Ouest. The sale of these materials is a promotional tool designed to demonstrate the advantages of organic matter collection and the benefits of composting.
This year’s fall compost sale is scheduled for Saturday October 1st between 8:00 AM and 4:00 pm while quantities last. The compost is sold in either 15 kilogram bags at a cost of $2 per bag or in bulk for $20 per cubic yard. There is a maximum of 15 bags per resident. Woodchips are also distributed for free and residents are advised to bring a shovel and containers. A proof of residency is required.
