Highway Conditions and Alerts:

Night closures on Highway 440 in the Monté Saint-François sector of Laval

The Department of Transportation will proceed with the closure of Highway 440 East and West as well as some ramp sectors to perform further construction on the new Boulevard Saint-François overpass. It should be noted that the closures may cause congestion on the detour routes wich uses the municipal network, between midnight and 5 am. The Department recognizes the inconvenience this may cause, but can not do otherwise because of the magnitude of the construction work. Motorists are urged to avoid the area by focusing on Highway 335 and Highway 640. The installation of barriers is planned for the night from Friday to Saturday, and the detour routes are listed below. For details of closures you are invited to visit www.quebec511.gouv.qc.ca .
Night of Friday 18th of May to Saturday, May 19, from 9 pm to 9am:
. Complete closure of the A-440 West at the exit for Rang du Bas Saint-François, Avenue Marcel-Villeneuve and Montée Masson up to Montée Saint-François (two out of three lanes will be closed as of 9 pm and totally closed as of 1 am up to 5 am)
. Complete closure of the A-440 East at the exit for Boulevard Pie-IX up to the entrance for Montée Masson (complete closure from 2 am to 6 am, reopening of one lane out of three as of 6 am untill complete reopening around 9 am).
. Closure of the entrance ramps from Rang Bas Saint-François, Avenue Marcel-Villeneuve and Montée Masson onto Highway 440 West (between 1 am and 5 am)
. Closure of the entrance ramps from Montée St-François onto Highway 440 East (between 1 am and 9 am).
Detour routes:
. Closure of the A-440 East and the entrance by Highway 125: Service Road A-440 East montée Saint-François, Ernest-Cormier street and Bernard-Lefebvre up to the Montée Masson and then the A-25 north.
. Closure of the A-440 West: 440, Mounted Masson, Bernard Lefebvre and Ernest-Cormier streets until the Monrée Saint-François.
. Closure of the entrance ramp of the rang du Bas-Saint-François for the A-440 west: from the Rang Bas-St-François, same detour as above. From 440 Boulevard, detour via the Rang Bas-Saint-Francois and the Montée Saint-François.
. Closing the entrance of A-25 north by the A-440 West: A-25 North, Blvd des Mille-Îles, A-25 south, Blvd 440, Montée Masson, Bernard-Lefebvre and Ernest-Cormier streets, then Montée Saint-François.

  • The Department of Transportation announced the resumption of the repairs to the overpass of the boulevard Le Corbusier at the level of Highway 440 in Laval. Work is scheduled to begin May 6, 2012 and end in mid-May.

  • ‘Disney Laval’
    A few days after officials with the city and the STL had gathered at city hall to announce to the media that Laval was exploring the possibility of building at least one aerial tramway line, an irreverent amateur editorial artist sent out a mass e-mail with an attached graphic lampooning “Disney Laval,” depicting several members of the Vaillancourt administration aboard a roller coaster ride.

  • The Société de transport de Laval is commissioning a feasibility study to determine whether it would be practical to put an aerial tramway into service in Laval. The City of Laval, the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) and Hydro Quebec all support the effort.

  • Since Nov. 5, the Société de Transport de Laval’s regular network of buses has become more accessible to persons who get around in wheelchairs and on three-and four-wheel electric scooters, thanks to some new access ramps.

  • In a report to be made public Tuesday, the board compiled gas prices in 52 cities around the province for a full year and calculated whether a price cap would have generated savings for motorists.

  • The Société de Transport de Laval entered a new phase in its pursuit of environmental sustainability earlier this week, with the launch of an experimental car sharing service that will be making one of North America’s first mass marketed hybrid-electric vehicles, the Chevrolet Volt, accessible over the coming months to a few select residents.

  • A plan by Laval’s main transit authority, the Société de Transport de Laval, to acquire its first all-electric bus in anticipation of electrifying the entire fleet, is being defended by Mayor Gilles Vaillancourt, while some critics are questioning the deal.

  • CNW Telbec/ - Jean-Jacques Beldié, Chairman of the Board of the Société de transport de Laval (STL), is very pleased to note that since last February, ridership has been up, peaking at nearly 5% in June.

  • Sainte-Dorothée is one of three Laval districts that have been chosen to take part in a car-sharing pilot project involving one of the world’s first mass-marketed all-electric consumer vehicles – the Chevrolet Volt.

  • The 850 property owners in Laval’s Val-des-Brises sector are sure to welcome an announcement by the city that an extension of Robert Bourassa Boulevard will allow them to start using this route starting this fall.
