It was with a smile on his lips and pride in his heart that Laval city councillor and executive-committee member Alexandre Duplessis arrived at the finish line on July 11 after having completed the nearly 300 kilometres from Montreal to Quebec City in the Ride to Conquer Cancer held for the benefit of the Jewish General Hospital.

New challenges
Always on the lookout for new challenges and aware of the importance of gathering funds in order to find new drugs for the struggle against cancer, Duplessis was part of a team of cyclists that included colleagues from his place of work, Transdev. Together, they took part in what was the second annual Ride to Conquer Cancer, and succeeded in raising $12,500 for the cause.
“Everybody, at one time or another in their life, has known someone either close or distant who has had cancer, and it was all these people affected by this terrible disease who provided me with the necessary energy to pedal despite the crushing heat last weekend,” Duplessis said.

JGH present in Laval
While Duplessis said he wanted to raise funds for the struggle against the disease, the Jewish General Hospital has a pavilion in Laval with a mandate to specialize in rehabilitation. The pavilion has another mandate as a regional centre for physical deficiency which also serves the Laval region. The 2010 Ride to Conquer Cancer succeeded in raising $6.7 million.
